In 1955, just four years after arriving in Canada from postwar Europe with only $5 in his pocket, Dr. Ignat Kaneff pledged against his future earnings to support the development of Mississauga’s first hospital. His gift was 20 times larger than the second largest gift – a true testament to his belief in the importance of community development and health care.
Today, the Kaneff family has made a significant donation to Trillium Health Partners to support the future redevelopment and expansion of Mississauga Hospital. This gift honours the life and legacy of Dr. Ignat Kaneff, on what would have been his 95th birthday.
For Dr. Ignat Kaneff, success and giving back worked in unison. As a leading Peel region developer, he went on to shape the Mississauga and Brampton skylines for future generations. A true philanthropist, Dr. Kaneff supported numerous causes and initiatives to ensure the success and well-being of his community.
This gift builds on Dr. Kaneff’s first gift in in 1955 – which supported the development of Mississauga’s first hospital – a donation which will benefit western GTA for decades to come.
